Born in 1937, Jacques Barrot is married and the father of three children. A graduate of law and of the Institut d'Etudes de Sociologie and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, Commissioner Barrot began his political career in 1976, taking on several local and parliamentary mandates before holding several Ministerial posts: Secretary of State for Housing, Minister for Trade and Crafts, Minister for Health and Social Security, Minister for Labour, Social Dialogue and Participation.
