AS they trotted out on to the neat little pitch in Mariehamn on the Finnish island of Aland, 11 footballers puffed their chests with pride as the Red Dragon fluttered overhead. The first Welsh soccer team ever to appear in an international final, the footballers of Anglesey were determined to go one step further and bring home the gold from the 1991 Island Games.
That they failed was no discredit, losing 2-0 to a Faroe Islands side that just nine months previously had sensationally defeated Austria in its first ever competitive international.
