What follows is a sort of "rhetoric of geography": an analysis and critique of the environmental and scientific discourse on the Diamond Bar Ranch, one hundred acres of private land commanding livestock access to almost 145,000 acres of public wilderness and a center of environmental conflict in the Southwest during the 1990s. The intention is to take note of the discourse of scientists, range managers, environmental groups, and the United States Forest Service (USFS) to show how the reality of the environmental conflict surrounding the Diamond Bar was constructed by the rhetoric surrounding it.
