PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The China-based SHANGHAI BAOSTEEL GROUP is currently said to be trying to team-up with the local CIA VALE DO RIO DOCE (CVRD) in view of turning Brazilian iron ore into steel slabs. Shipping steel slabs, for that matter, is considered to be far cheaper than shipping iron ore with all the extra weight of the dirt and rocks that are contained in it. The slabs would be shipped to overseas mills, presumably in China, where they would be made into beams for construction or rolled into sheets for autos and washing machines.
