OK, quick: Can you define a "polygon" without resorting to the handy dictionary for help?
Neither could we. But the American Heritage Dictionary folks think it's a word any high school freshman should be able to use in a sentence.
"Polygon" is included in "100 Words Every High School Freshman Should Know" (Houghton Mifflin: $4.95). The editors argue that the words "are ones that students entering high school should have mastered or are likely to encounter in their studies during the freshman year based on our analysis of textbooks and vocabulary books used in grades seven and eight."
