Article: Transportation: Senator Stalls TEA-21 Extension Vote To Spur Democratic Action on Final Bill.

Sen. Christopher S. Bond, R-Mo., held up approval yesterday of a two-month extension of an expiring law that governs the nation's highway and transit programs in an effort to force Senate Democrats to end their refusal to begin formal negotiations on a final six-year transportation bill.

"Let's move the process forward," Bond, chairman of the Environment and Public Works transportation subcommittee, said yesterday afternoon during debate on the Senate floor.

Bond's action follows approval Wednesday by the House of its version of the two-month extension.
