Absentee landlord loses [pounds sterling]850,000 flat to 'Rainbow George'.

AN eccentric politician and friend of the late comedian Peter Cook has reportedly won ownership of an [pounds sterling]850,000 flat because the landlord has failed to contact him since 1990.

The one-bedroom flat in Perrin's Walk, a quiet street in Hampstead, now belongs to 63-year-old George Weiss who has never before owned a property. Mr Weiss, known as "Rainbow George" and once linked with Lord Sutch's Monster Raving Loony Party, plans to sell the flat, which is just a few yards from Cook's former home, to fund election campaigns for the London Mayor and the European Parliament.
