CANBERRA, April 30 Asia Pulse - Australian sugar growers fear the federal government's $A444 million ($US319.81 million) industry rescue package is not sufficient.

Prime Minister John Howard yesterday unveiled the package, which includes provisions for sugar farmers to receive up to ,000 ($US18,007.50) each.

Around 7,000 farmers, most based in a handful of marginal government-held seats in Queensland, stand to benefit from the package.

The key element is $A146 million ($US105.16 million) in so-called sustainability grants which will be available to growers and millers.
