CELEBRATING the birthday of the prophet Mohammed is an annual observance among Muslims in the Philippines and around the world. Born in Mecca in 570, Mohammed grew up at a time when Mecca was the most prosperous trading center of the Arab world. Mohammeds life included a love for solitude and a thirst for God that consumed him the rest of his life.
As a child, Mohammed suffered the life of an orphan. Raised by his grandfather and then his uncle, he became a successful caravan leader.
