THE DAY AFTER New Year's, as I was sitting on the sofa in our living room, something caught my eye outside in the shady side garden. A flower, just breaking bud. How odd, I thought. I wonder what it is? Then I realized it didn't matter - it was Jan. 2 and it was a flower.
