The European Commission has recommended that the Council of Ministers choose Liverpool (United Kingdom) and Stavanger (Norway) as European Capitals of Culture in 2008. The recommendation was submitted for a Council ruling on April 27 following the opinion of a jury (composed of seven independent, expert names in culture), in line with the procedure laid down by Decision 1419/1999/EC of May 25, 1999.
In addition, in plenary on April 22 in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a report by Michel Rocard (PES, France) on the draft Decision to modify the list of countries expected to apply to the European Culture Capital initiative for the period 2005-2019, in ...
