There have been some news reports lately about safety issues related to black cohosh and liver function. Uncontrolled reports, and human clinical trials including more than 2,800 patients demonstrate the low incidence of adverse events associated with black cohosh. The World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for International Drug Monitoring has a database for all reported adverse reactions to pharmaceutical products and herbal products, including adverse black cohosh. As of July 31, 2000, it revealed a total of 35 adverse reactions. The reactions were primarily general and temporary symptoms and were not concentrated on a particular organ system. This list ...
