May 4--SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- Johnston County officials who have dreamed of a biotechnology skills training center now only have to wait.
On Monday, Johnston County commissioners unanimously agreed to pay $388,000 toward a $1 million equipment bill. With that guarantee in place, the center is scheduled to break ground this summer and open in fall 2005.
Also Monday, Don Reichard, president of Johnston Community College, said the Golden LEAF Foundation will grant the center $139,000 for chemistry lab equipment.
