THERE'S A SHINY-NEW, LAMINATED certificate of achievement pinned to my kitchen noticeboard, between the 100m swimming award, circa 1968, and a pizza flyer. It attests to a newly acquired skill that, to be honest, I'm unlikely to use again. For it records the fact that I, Wendy Gomersall, 'successfully shepherded a small flock of sheep with a trained sheepdog'. I am so proud.
