MANY patients who visit my clinic at The Maudsley Hospital complain of stress caused by the demands put on them at work. What they don't usually realise is that it is their own dedication to the job that is causing the problem.
The true difficulty lies within the workers themselves and has been labelled Work Dependency. Such people can be identified by their excessive involvement with work and neglect of other areas of their lives.
They tend to put in long hours, including evenings and weekends, and won't stop even when on holiday.
