MEXICO CITY, May 04, 2004 (Mexico Analytica/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- Mexico is protected against the possible impact of interest rate hikes in the United States, assured the Treasury Secretary Francisco Gil Diaz.
"We are quite well protected because our paper is at long terms, both in the international and domestic markets," said the official.
Interviewed at the Mexico City Stock Exchange (BMV), Gil Diaz refused to give an estimate of the possible increase in interest rates north of the border. He said that we would have to wait and see how much the hike would be.
