DETROIT _ Like mounted cavalry they sat Monday morning, ready to lay siege on the ground before them, ready to fire the opening salvo in this war of attrition.
So, as construction workers started their vehicles and prepared for a long day of droning noise, those beeps and honks and throaty rumblings of heavy machinery were all part of the unmistakable sound of the Ryder Cup coming to Oakland Hills Country Club.
