During a meeting with MEPs in Brussels on April 28, the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME) gave a lukewarm assessment of the outgoing European Parliaments work in favour of European crafts and small businesses. The associations main criticism is the lack of systematic impact assessment on decisions made by the European Parliament relating to small businesses. In this way, the UEAPME criticises the fact that the Parliament regularly raised environmental standards for many proposals for Directives such as the VOC, electronic waste and air quality Directives. This tougher legislation has considerably added to the burdens for SMEs.
