Clint Barmes had grown accustomed to the April sputtering, making this season an even more welcome change.
The Class AAA Colorado Springs shortstop would overcome his slow starts and typically finish with solid statistics. Not the tear-up-the-league sort that indicate sustained hard contact and a practically eternal hitting groove.
For example, Barmes hit .276 last year for the Sky Sox, with 35 doubles, which tied for the Pacific Coast League lead, seven homers and 54 RBI. That earned him a September promotion to the Colorado Rockies and a 12-game cameo during which Barmes went 8-for-20 with two doubles ...
