The wound healing process can be considered a symphony in three parts (and with hopefully no hecklers from the audience--that comes in a later column). Part I dealt with the inflammatory phase (scherzo movement) (Worley, 2004). The second movement of a symphony often introduces additional themes into the texture of the musical composition. In addition, the tempo of the music will often change, reflecting the new tone of the music. Such is the case in the second phase of wound healing--the proliferation phase.
