Central New York golfers this month will begin to tee up for charity in scores of tournaments that will earn money for such diverse causes as medical research, children's activities, elder care and help for the homeless.
A study conducted by The Post-Standard of 141 tournaments shows they earned a net of about $2million for charities in the greater Central New York region last year.
Every year, golfers who are involved with nonprofits launch tournaments with the hope of raising thousands of dollars while others abandon the golf outing as a fund-raiser.
