For the second year in a row restricted stock formed a larger slice of the financial services chief executive compensation pie.
Experts say that increase reflects a growing trend in the way companies pay their top employees.
The average restricted stock award for financial services CEOs last year rose 63% from 2002, to $3.1 million, according to a survey of 46 companies compiled for American Banker by Executive Compensation Resources, an Alexandria, Va., unit of Towers Perrin.
By comparison, the average restricted stock award for CEOs across all major industries rose 42%, to $553,300, according to a separate Towers Perrin survey that covered 900 ...
