NORTHFIELD, Ill., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced today that the English and Spanish language editions of SNOMED Clinical Terms(R) (SNOMED CT(R)) core content are now available, free of charge, through the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Unified Medical Language System(R) (UMLS(R)) Metathesaurus(R).

Thompson insisted that it is simply unacceptable that "21st century treatments are being administered by 18th century tools -- pencils and pads and loose slips of paper," in a recent story published in Family Practice News.
