May 6--New Mexico state government has been spending too much on items such as fuel and paper clips for decades.
To try to solve the problem, the state is in the process of implementing a new system for purchasing such items in bulk, a change that proponents say will save the state millions of dollars each year.
As an example, the state currently spends an average of $30.41 on a package of CD-ROMS -- something most consumers can purchase for about $10 and can even find for free if they watch the rebate sales at OfficeMax. Under the new system, the same item ...
