Rockwood Specialties says it has agreed to acquire four of Dynamit Nobel's six chemical businesses from Mg Technologies for 2.25 billion [euro] ($2.7 billion). The deal will create a "unique global specialty chemicals and advanced materials company with a good geographic spread'" says Rockwood CEO Seifi Ghasemi.
The four businesses, all based in Germany, are advanced ceramics producer CeramTec (Plochingen); surface treatment and lithium chemicals business Chemetall (Frankfurt); pharmaceutical intermediates company DNES Custom Synthesis (Troisdorf); and specialty titanium dioxide (Ti[O.sub.2]) producer Sachtleben Chemie (Duisburg).
