TOKYO, May 7 Asia Pulse - Seiko Watch Corp. plans to pursue in earnest the marketing of watches equipped with the Spring Drive mechanism, in a bid to compete with Swiss rivals.
The mechanism, developed by Seiko Epson Corp. (TSE:6724), uses a mainspring to provide an electrical output that leads a quartz crystal to produce a signal. An integrated circuit then measures deviation between the signal and the rate of the unwinding spring, and makes adjustments when needed.
