WASHINGTON -- Don't expect President Bush to dump Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld despite the fallout over the Abu Ghraib abuse cases. A number of Democrats, including House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, are calling for old Rummy's head. But Bush recalls that the secretary served him well during the early days of the Iraqi invasion. Rumsfeld became an elderly sex symbol and took some pressure off the White House.
Besides, firing Rumsfeld would be tantamount to the president saying he made a mistake -- something he is not wont to do.
