THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN alcohol intake and aspects of health has been well explored (Poikolainen, 1995; Poikolainen et al., 1996; Single et al., 1999), and some reports have emphasised the complex nature of this relationship (Bondy, 1996; San Jose et al., 1999).
