p-Phenylenediamine is an intermediate with extensive applications. It can be used in the production of dyestuffs, pigments, hair dyes, rubber antioxidants and p-aromatic polyamide fiber. Besides, it is also often used as sensitive reagent in iron and copper inspection. It is a raw material for gasoline polymerization inhibitor and film developing agent. Major foreign producers include DuPont of the United States and Bayer of Germany. India also has a 3 000 t/a unit.
