May 9--In recent months, news from some of Montgomery's newest arrivals, such as Hyundai and the Biscuits, has shined a spotlight on one of the city's oldest resources, the Alabama River.
In March, city leaders gathered along the riverbank in nearby Burkville to see Hyundai unload two parts of a $20 million stamping press bound for the new Montgomery plant. The parts, too large and heavy for truck or rail, were transported by barge from the State Docks in Mobile on a daylong journey upriver.
