EU SUGGESTS ESTABLISHING "PRIVILEGED RELATIONS" WITH NEW NEIGHBOURS

The European Commission has voiced a proposal on Wednesday to launch a "privileged relations" programme for the EU's new neighbours in the East and South.

The EC said it is necessary to develop an action plan with "the partner states".

In the first place, in the East the EU will favour Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as three Caucasian states - Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Privileged relations will also be established with the Mediterranean region (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and the Palestine Administration) except for ...
