If one asks PWB managers why they aren't using embedded passives right now, one gets a variety of answers. Lack of suppliers, lack of costing models, lack of infrastructure, lack of design software, lack of this, lack of that. But one important issue is well along the way to being resolved: lack of standards. IPC's Embedded Passives Subcommittee D-37 has been working for almost three years to develop documents on design, materials, performance and test methods for both the embeddable components themselves and the completed boards.
