GlaxoSmithKline's Requip (ropinirole) produces long-term improvements in symptoms of restless legs syndrome, as well as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and sleep in patients with the condition. These findings were reported at the American Academy of Neurology annual meeting in San Francisco.
In one 36-week study, patients with primary RLS received single-blind treatment with Requip for 24 weeks. Those who responded to therapy, and met the study requirements, were then entered into the 12-week double-blind phase of the trial, in which they were randomized to receive either Requip or placebo.
