Something is missing this year when Burnsville's Alison Cozad shows up for softball practices and games: the constant back pain that nagged her for the past two years.
To stand the pain, Cozad had lived on a steady diet of ibuprofen and aspirin, throwing in some prescription painkillers for good measure. But even with all the pills, the pain wouldn't relent.
Last summer, after countless doctor appointments, MRI's and bone scans, she found the cause of the pain: two fractured vertebrae in her lower back.
