May 14--You might say these are tough times for the home of the Whopper. That's especially true in the Tampa area, where at least 19 franchisee-owned Burger King restaurants have landed in bankruptcy court.
Even former Burger King Corp. President Jerome Ruenheck has found the going tough. Ruenheck and three business partnerships he's connected with co-own 13 Burger King restaurants in a tri-county area around Tampa. The partnerships are strapped for cash, and Burger King may pull the rights to the franchises, a lawyer says.
