The Chilean water and sanitation companies reported a combined profit of US$209.7mil (Pesos$125,021.3mil) in 2003, an increase of 7.5% over 2002. Combined sales increased by 9.7% to US$692.6mil (Pesos$412,829.4mil). The sector's profitability rate increased from 10.3% to 12.6%. showing that despite a fall in demand in the last few months of 2003, the incorporation of new customers, rising tariffs and the opening of new wastewater treatment plants helped to boost the sector's performance.
