SEOUL, May 14 (Yonhap) -- The U.S. Navy will retire its aircraft carrier deployed in Japan, USS Kitty Hawk, in 2008 amid speculation the conventionally-powered flattop will be replaced by a nuclear-powered ship, an American military newspaper reported Friday. The Kitty Hawk, the U.S. Navy's oldest active aircraft carrier, has been based in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture as the successor to the USS Independence since 1998. The ship was commissioned in 1961.
