INDIANAPOLIS _ Certainly, Larry Foyt would have loved to have gone faster, but even being the slowest qualifier at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway made Saturday the greatest day of his life.

Foyt dreamed of racing in the Indianapolis 500, but Dad _ four-time winner A.J. Foyt _ steered him toward stock cars. But with sponsorship lacking on his NASCAR program, Larry finally got the call this spring, and now he's a rookie in the race.

Foyt posted a four-lap average of 213.227 mph, the slowest of 22 qualifiers and nearly 9 mph off Buddy Rice's pole pace. But because of the small number of entries, bumping doesn't look likely.
