Baltimore orioles - luscious tropical birds that visit Minnesota every year to raise their babies - usually head our way around the first week of May. It's hard to imagine a prettier sight than these bright orange birds sitting in the lush green foliage of a newly leafed-out tree
The Baltimore oriole takes its name from Lord Baltimore, whose coat of arms sported a bright orange crest. Naturally, Maryland selected the Baltimore oriole as its state bird, and the Baltimore baseball team appropriated the bird's name for its own.
Unfortunately for them, the American Ornithologists' Union changed the bird's name in 1975, after ...
