May 16--HICKORY, N.C. -- Florence Mackie arrived at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market last week on a mission.
On a previous trip to the newly established downtown fruit-and-vegetable market, Mackie had bought asparagus -- the best asparagus she'd ever had, she said. So, upon her return, she beat a path back to Donnie Cline's booth to buy another batch.
On her heels were David and Virginia Kelso, also repeat customers, also seeking asparagus.
And so it goes at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market.
