Second Round For FMS

After twenty years of ups and downs (with more downs than ups) it appeared that FMS (flexible machining system) technology was giving way to more simple cells. The new Maho plant in Kempten, Germany, soon to come on line, is testimony to the conviction that a well run FMS is a true productivity winner.

Not many companies are willing to put more than $60 million on the line for an advanced production concept and a new plant in which to house it when the concept has been around for more than twenty years with a very checkered track record.
