Brown County, S.D., Permits Aberdeen Fire Department to Respond to Hazards.

May 18--An agreement with Brown County that allows the Aberdeen Fire department to operate in the county in response to potential hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction incidents was approved Monday night by the Aberdeen City Commission.

Public Safety Commissioner Jacki Omland said the agreement was required by the state, which provided some of the funds.

"The state mainly gave funds to three cities, and it has asked them to reach out to others," Omland said.

She said the city would likely be signing agreements with other area counties in the near future.
