Pregnancy loss occurs in at least 15% of known pregnancies, (1) which is typically before the 20th week ("miscarriage"). Although subsequent emotional reactions are diverse, pregnancy loss may trigger depressive symptoms and disorder (2) and may also be psychologically traumatic. (3,4) In fact, we found recently that pregnancy loss may result in substantial symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
