Printing hard copies of documents has long been an unavoidable part of office life. Since the days of large and expensive page printers attached to mainframes, no office has been able to do without a printer. As printers became far more prolific, demand for personal printing grew for both business and recreation. Purchase and running costs have nearly always been at the top of the list when individuals or businesses consider which type of printer to buy, and this has been reflected in fluctuating trends in use and deployment.
