ARE you ever afraid?' I asked Indira Gandhi. Haughty, aristocratic, arrogant, with a long scimitar-shaped nose, India's Prime Minister was then at the height of her power and fame.
Her hooded eyes flickered briefly: 'I'm much too busy to be afraid.' But then she added, in a murmured aside: 'Of course, as you know, one of my childhood heroines was Joan of Arc'.
