: Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd has gained approval from the Chekiang Province authorities in China to set up a company in Hangzhou City-Yokohama Hamatite (Hangzhou) Co. Ltd-to make sealant for passenger cars.

In the first phase of the project, Yokohama Rubber is to invest $1.5 million ([euro]1.26 million) to build a production unit with annual capacity of 1000 tonnes for car windscreen sealant, with start up by January 2005. A second phase, costing $2.2 million, will see capacity doubled within three years-by 2007.
