May 21--AUSTIN, Texas -- By continuing to use defective pipe for more than three decades, the Metroplex's primary gas utility failed to meet even the minimum standards, a top state regulator said Thursday.
Texas Railroad Commissioner Charles Matthews said TXU Gas or its predecessor knew for years about the bad pipe and should have removed it earlier. "They said they needed to go and get it out, and for whatever reason, they didn't do it," he said.
