Venezuela's Hugo Chavez rants about an imperialist plot to assassinate him.
He points the finger at Uncle Sam, backed by Colombian right-wing paramilitary groups (found unarmed, no less) and the Venezuelan "oligarchy" plotting to take him out.
He threatens to expel election observers _ including those from former President Jimmy Carter's democracy-building Carter Center who are there to ensure no government monkey business during a popular voter-petition drive to cut Chavez's term by half. (Fat chance.)
