So read the first message on the Baltic Republics Discussion List on August 19, 1991 in response to the Coup, led by Gennady 1. Yanayev and his self-appointed State Emergency Committee in Moscow. I was one of 150 U.S. librarians in the Russian capital attending the 57th General Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).
