Gas prices hit record highs in the Twin Cities this week, with the prevailing price in the metro area reaching $2.19 a gallon on Friday.
The high prices made Dan Smoot to do something that he hasn't done since high school: He stopped at a gas station and, instead of filling up, put $10 worth into the tank of his Chevy Impala.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," said Smoot, a Cottage Grove real estate agent. "But I know a place closer to home where I think it will be cheaper."
